Designed by Artist Daniel Gill.
This sandstone sculpture of St Benedict is not merely a work of art - it is a
symbol of faith, wisdom, and guidance, here to inspire generations to come.
Its meaning is not fixed and will evolve and deepen as time passes and as the
College community continues to grow.
The sculpture serves as a dedication to the College’s mission and was
positioned at the front of the College to be a visible anchor—a place for
reflection, gathering, or simply a reminder of the wisdom of St Benedict.
As
time moves forward, future students will engage with the sculpture in different ways. It may
become the backdrop to significant events, a place where traditions are formed,
or a physical representation of the College’s identity as it evolves.
Over decades, the sandstone will bear the marks of weather and time, it will
be a testament to the longevity of the values it represents. Its presence will be
quietly reassuring; an ever-present sign of stability and continuity in a changing
world.
As we look upon it, we bring our own knowledge and understanding of St
Benedict’s teachings, allowing the sculptor’s interpretation of his form to
take on personal significance. Whether through the posture, expression, or
symbolism embedded in the design, each of us will find unique meaning in
how his presence and teachings are encapsulated in stone.
With time, this
connection will only deepen, as students, staff, and families engage with the
sculpture in their own ways—seeking wisdom, finding encouragement, or
simply reflecting on the legacy it represents.
